Ash Rests Here

August 14, 2008

AshResting

Ash lies here
Resting, sleeping
Just as I am resting and sleeping, restorative sleep
While I am here.

AshView

He lies, watching Mt Difficult
Whose Guardian watches over us.
This is a place of power and awe,
a place where the land nurtures those who walk upon it.

  1. What a lovely spot for Ash. He must be happy there with the lovely view.

  2. Beautiful Heather, just beautiful.

  3. A good resting place for a good friend. Warmly, Kerry

  4. I too like Heather have been in the country for a break to the beautiful Gippsland area in a spot called Swan Reach on the Tambo River..Like Heather I think of my Darling canine friend also
Lanny and Dave ( Nursing friends) moved here 5 years ago into an old farmhouse on the top of the hill looking down onto the bridge that spans the tidal river the Tambo
This is the only time I have visited without Jessie Dog ..they have 3 dogs and one there being cared for while his owner is up in Darwin….Name of L.J…. called little for short …… named after little johnny howard a former prime minister..They have a different sense of humour in the country…..
I went up on the train a 5 hr journey on my free age pension ticket (one per year) and David brought me home as he had training at Monash Hospital.
I loved the stay ,the garden, the wonderful fresh vegies and glorious tasting meat…2 big AGA stoves keep the large house warm …the early mornings take a bit of getting used to ..since retirement I am known to stay in bed till 8am and read the paper with a cuppa….
But I kept myself busy while they were at work
chooks, weeding,re potting walking to the local shop for the paper cooking on a new type of stove ,making scones in the wonderful oven of the AGA
Good company with no TV to speak of just the ABC I retired at 9.30pm thinking I would do the crossword but I never did get to finish one before I fell asleep looking out onto that lovely river and the car lights as they sped along the road linking the 2 towns…..
I am home with much to do and for the week will feed and water David who has a huge appetite (But is the greatest handyman) can do anything including build a house …so all my odd jobs are done…….I watch him and think of Heather’s Darryl and how great his talents in making repairing creating restoring furniture and wood to bring it back to its natural colours
In Finishing this long reply to Heather in Wartook I look out of the glass kitchen doors and see the memorial of Jessie Dog that David has made for me to put on her resting place in the yard.
It is a piece of BLACKWOOD from Tasmania a beautiful timber quite dark ..2 feet high and 8 inches wide 4 inches thick stained to make it weatherproof and down the centre is JESSIE engraved into/cut out and coated with a lighter colour varnish to make it stand out on the wood ..on it is attatched a long metal stake to make it firm…
So there you go …am I not the most blessed of women……………

  5. Heather this is gorgeous and so peaceful. Lois, what a lovely time you’ve been having, I hope you remember me from our previous groups. Our animal companions are so special to us, they really become part of our hearts, don’t they?

Enjoy the healing power of nature. love, karen

  6. I put Wolfgang under a tree in his herb garden.
Sometimes I like to sit out there, but most of the time I can’t bear to look out there.

I’m hoping that will pass soon.

Maybe seeing how you’ve reached out to Ash and he’s reached back to you will help.

Thank you for sharing this- I think I can learn from it.

  7. I have put all my cats in the garden and planted a special plant or shrub over each one. Unfortunately most of these have been eaten by slugs or destroyed by the weather but it was the thought that counts and I know they lie in peace in a garden that I love

  8. I like the idea of guardians around us.

  9. Well, this is just breathtakingly beautiful. You can almost smell the fresh air and the place is so full of the divine. What a fitting resting place this is for Ash, that lovely soul.

  10. My old friend, Westmark’s No-Cut Contract, lies under an oak tree that looks quite similar to the one in your photograph. Easter lily plants were on the top, but deer ate them down to the ground.

I have read this: “The best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master.” Clearly, Ash is there with you, and not Ash only.

Thank you for sharing this stunning other-worldly world.

  11. Gosh, that is a beautiful quote, Elizabeth.
